Generative AI continuing to proliferate in newsrooms

The latest burn aimed at professional writers is “Which LLM or Generative AI wrote that for you?” In the article, the author analyzes why this line is hurtful and will continue to plague professional writers (trust us, it’s also plaguing innocent students). In this blog, we will review what that means for writers and students alike.

According to Forbes, this snark results from vast amounts of generative AI flooding the internet and even mainstream media is using generative AI to speed up content production. We wrote about this earlier in the year, but the scandals are starting to pile up. In terms of mainstream media, our latest story comes out of Wyoming, where a reporter was caught using AI to create fake quotes and stories. Also, have you read about the marketer who used AI to generate hilarious fake headlines for a snarky campaign for Megalopolis?

What can our marketing writers take away from this?

Don’t use AI unless you’ve been given the go-ahead to use AI

We guess this is an obvious point, but considering the stories above, we thought we would point it out again. AI freelancing is a growing field and is legitimate. If you’ve entered into an AI writing contract, there’s nothing wrong with using AI to generate content. All of the scandals we’ve cited result from fraudulently presenting generative AI content as original. As even the Forbes article notes, AI-generated content is often confusingly marked, even by mainstream media. Don’t fall into that trap.

Running your Content through AI Detector Pro and providing a detection score could be handy!

The Forbes article goes into a lengthy dissection of the societal ramifications of addressing the snark. Our thoughts? We recommend that you think thoughtfully about how to respond to internet trolls, as they don’t give up and simply want to upset you.

However, if you are a freelance SEO writer, and you are turning in original work as part of a negotiated contract, put the issue to bed by stating that you are sending in original work and providing an AI Detector Pro Detection Score. It’s very likely that they are being scanned anyway, and we do daily diligence on our algorithm. It’s one of the toughest ones out there.

Ultimately, we recommend that you simply focus on your job. High-quality writing. We are confident that you can hit it out out of the park!

Readers should be wary

Depending on the source, readers SHOULD be wary. There is no reason to snark people on the internet. But if you’re using generative AI or reading something incendiary, you may want to double-check whether it’s human or AI. Sometimes things ARE too good to be true.
